There is a wide range of quality arts & craft on display and for sale in Vava'u. Basket production (kato tu'aniu) is a feature handicraft in Tonga, woven from coconut ribs and pandanus leaves. The skill of the local people can also be seen in the mats, wood carvings, shell jewellery, bags, hats and clothing that are widely available in Vava'u.

The Ark Gallery is the floating home and studio of talented local artist Sheri, who captures the spirit of the Tongan people and their way of life in her original paintings.
Tapa framed prints are also available as well as a variety of other local arts and crafts made by other Tongan artists here in Vava'u.

Not on a yacht? Appointments can be arranged by phone or vhf. Just a taxi ride from town but worlds apart, a visit to the ARK Gallery is an experience in itself !!.

T/T features tee shirts for men, women and children in several colours and styles. Shirts feature designs by local artists' right here in Vavaú. They also do custom, personalized screen printing. Famous TONGA DIRT SHIRTS (take a little bit of Tonga with you).
Tongan Feasts
A traditional Tongan feast takes place at Hinakauea Beach, Pangaimotu Anchorage 11, every Thursday at 6pm. Tongan dance and a handicraft fair are also featured.
There is another Tongan feast every Saturday at Barnacle Beach on Kapa Island, Anchorage 7.
To book for either feast or for more information, contact the Tonga Visitors Bureau VHF 16. Cost is $T30.
